Choosing a Dining Table for a Modern Home
A dining table is a long-term part of the room. A useful shortlist starts with measurements and daily use, then narrows by material, finish and the character you want the piece to bring to the space.
Start with the room and the chairs
Measure the room, mark doors and walking routes, and note nearby storage that needs opening space. Test the proposed table footprint with your chairs in place. Allow for pulling chairs out and moving around occupied seats. Compare round, rectangular and oval shapes before deciding by appearance alone.
Read material names precisely
Solid wood, wood veneer, microcement, marble and travertine describe different surfaces and constructions. A finish named Walnut or Oak may describe a colour or appearance; it does not always identify the timber species. Read the construction stated for the exact design.
Explore wood, microcement, stone and marble, and metal. Consider how the surface will be used and the care it needs. Where available, review a sample in your own lighting before finalising a finish.
Look below the tabletop
Base position affects chair placement and legroom. Compare pedestal, slab and separate-leg designs using their actual dimensions. Confirm underside clearance for armchairs and check whether the selected base differs from the main product photograph.
Confirm the practical details
- Exact dimensions, finish and configuration selected.
- Assembly or installation requirements for the specific design.
- Door, hallway, stair and elevator access along the delivery route.
- Current production lead time, delivery service and destination coverage.
- Applicable warranty and return terms for the order.
Production and transit are separate stages. For made-to-order or custom dimensions, confirm the order-specific details before purchase.
